Gin Bottle Labels
Branding & label design
Branding, labels
Date
April 2023
A high end bar chain were looking to create their own gin range to sell in their bars. The brief was to design gin labels that would represent the county of Suffolk.
I tried to keep in mind 3 emotional elements of the target market. Social — having fun with friends, Pride— proud of their locale and curiosity — history and provenance of their area.
I decided to tell the story of St Edmund across the 3 labels. St Edmund was a King, who after being captured in battle by the Vikings, was tied to a tree, shot with arrows and beheaded. His followers later retrieved his head with help from a wolf who was protecting his head.
I created 3 gin expressions known as King Gin, Martyr Gin and Wolf Gin to represent the 3 key aspects of the story. I chose to illustrate these elements in 1950s style illustration to try and bring a bit of light fun and playfulness to the grim story.
